Short length changes more than the look of your training kit. When the measurement refers to the inseam, moving from 7 inches to 5 inches can change how much coverage, fabric and freedom you feel through a session.
Why choose 5-inch shorts?
A 5-inch inseam gives a shorter, more open feel around the thigh. That can suit running, intervals, leg sessions and other training where you want less fabric around the knee and plenty of freedom through each stride or repetition.
Why choose 7-inch shorts?
A 7-inch inseam gives additional coverage and can feel more natural if you prefer a slightly longer training short. It is a versatile option for lifting, conditioning and everyday gym wear without moving into a long or restrictive silhouette.
Look beyond the inseam
Length is only one part of the fit. Fabric stretch, side splits, the rise, waistband and any inner liner can change how a pair of shorts moves. Two shorts with the same inseam can still feel completely different once training starts.
Test them like you train
Squat, lunge, raise your knee and take a few running strides. The waistband should stay secure, the fabric should not pull across the thighs and you should not need to keep adjusting the hem.
There is no single best length. Choose 5 inches when you want a shorter, freer feel and 7 inches when you prefer more coverage. The right pair is the one you stop noticing once the session begins.
