Reflective sportswear can need more care than a standard training T-shirt. Reflective prints, trims and fabrics are not all made in the same way, so the aim is to clean the garment without putting unnecessary stress on the reflective finish.
Check the care label first
The garment care label should always be your starting point. Different reflective materials can allow different wash temperatures, drying methods and treatments, so one set of instructions should not be applied to every product.
Keep the wash controlled
Use the lowest suitable temperature and a normal or gentle cycle within the limits shown on the care label. Avoid aggressive stain treatment or excessive washing when the garment only needs a standard clean.
Be careful with bleach and heat
Do not use chlorine bleach on reflective detailing. Some reflective materials permit specific non-chlorine products, while others advise against bleach completely, so follow the garment label rather than guessing. High drying temperatures can also shorten the life of reflective components; use low heat only when permitted or air dry when the label recommends it.
Inspect the reflective areas
Once the garment is clean and dry, check reflective prints and trims for peeling, cracking or visible damage. Careful washing helps extend their useful life, but reflective details still wear over time with use and repeated cleaning.
Look after the garment the same way you approach training: pay attention to the details. Follow the care label, avoid unnecessary heat and harsh treatment, and keep the kit ready for the next session.
